Nursing home abuse and neglect are never acceptable. When we place a loved one in a nursing home, we expect them to receive the care, dignity, and respect they deserve. Nursing home abuse refers to any harm, injury, neglect, or mistreatment of a resident in a long‑term care facility. This includes physical abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, sexual abuse, financial exploitation, and neglect such as failure to provide adequate food, medication, hygiene, supervision, or medical care.
In Ohio, neglect occurs when a caregiver fails to provide the necessary care that a resident reasonably depends on, resulting in harm to the resident. Examples include ignoring medical needs, failing to prevent bedsores, leaving residents unsupervised, or not assisting with basic daily needs.
Liability may extend to the nursing home facility, individual caregivers, administrators, medical staff, or others responsible for a resident’s care, depending on who caused or failed to prevent the abuse or neglect.
You should contact an experienced Ohio nursing home abuse attorney as soon as possible. There are strict filing deadlines (statutes of limitations) for civil claims, and early action helps preserve important evidence and witness testimony.
Nursing home abuse cases can involve complex medical evidence, multiple liable parties, insurance defenses, and regulatory issues. An experienced attorney can investigate the abuse, work with experts, enforce residents’ rights, and pursue maximum compensation on behalf of victims and families.
Mentally Challenged Group Home Residents, Police Officer Injured in a Fire Receive Seven-figure Settlement
Shortly before trial obtained a seven-figure settlement in a personal injury and wrongful death claim for three mentally challenged group home residents and a police officer who rescued them when an arsonist set fire to their group home. Lowe Scott Fisher was able to prove that the caretaker charged with supervising the three residents had negligently fallen asleep and was therefore unable to alert the residents of the home. The survivors were all badly burned.
